Building Resiliency - Asset Mapping

Bridge Foundation Community Asset Mapping is based on a simple philosophy: as people understand and recognize their strengths they become more empowered to address their life situations and to take action to develop solutions.

Discovering assets and capacities can serve as a pathway to building resilient communities and serve as a foundation for strategic planning, community mobilization and advocacy.

Asset discovery must be purpose driven, intentional with commitment to develop a plan for documenting the community’s assets.

Bridge Foundation’s strategy

  • identifies the type of assets to explore and matches those assets to goals and plans for the community;

  • concentrates on the agenda-building and problem-solving capacity of group;

  • emphasizes local determination, investment, creativity, and control; and

  • promotes through mapping of assets the connections or relationships that exist between individuals, between and among organizations at large.
